All Souls’ Day is unique on the liturgical calendar. Neither a solemnity nor a
feast, this commemoration outranks other feasts and even takes the place
of a Sunday in Ordinary Time, as it does today. Prayer for the dead reaches
deep into our human history, and it has been our custom from the earliest
days of the Church. The belief that our prayers can be of assistance to the
dead is a treasured tenet of our Catholic faith.

By: St. Paul’s Parish
For the month of November and today especially, we remember those who
have gone before us to see the Lord. Today we pray for the souls in
purgatory, who are atoning for their sins so that they may one day see the
face of God in heaven. Through the Communion of Saints, we pray for the
souls in purgatory, and they in turn intercede for us once they reach
heaven.

This month, try to pray the Requiem Aeternam at least once a day for those
who have passed away.
Eternal rest grant unto them,
O Lord
And let perpetual light shine
upon them.
May they rest in peace.
Amen.

We do not know the hour when God will call us home, yet our whole lives
are lived waiting to discover what home with God looks like. Today’s
readings call us to be conscious of our relationship with God as Father and
Jesus as Divine Son. As we nurture and grow our relationship with God here
on earth, so we will reap the benefits after we pass into the next life.

Notice: Catholic Travel Agency Scam
The USCCB has issued a warning against Fr.
Anthony Nachef, a Melkite Greek Catholic
priest who has been excommunicated. Fr.
Nachef runs a travel agency in
Massachusetts. The Eparchial Bishop of
Newton,
Massachusetts
issued
this
statement: “Fr. Nachef is not in good
standing with the Church and cannot
celebrate the liturgy in public, but rather is
attempting to promote the business of his
Catholic’ travel agency through the use of
his priesthood.” Any trips or pilgrimages
with Fr. Nachef should be avoided. For
more information, call the Office of the
Bishop of the Eparchy of Newton at 617323-9921.
Is God Calling You to a Vocation?

Indulgences for November
Special indulgences can be obtained for the souls in purgatory
during the month of November. Those seeking indulgences
must be in a state of grace, meaning they must have received
the sacrament of Reconciliation, the sacrament of the Eucharist,
prayed for the intentions of the pope, and be detached from sin.
These conditions must be met within 20 days before or after
the indulgenced act.
A plenary indulgence may be gained by piously visiting a
church on November 2nd and reciting the Creed and the Lord’s
Prayer. (These prayers must be in addition to the regular
Sunday obligation to Mass.)
A partial indulgence may be obtained by visiting a cemetery and
praying for the departed. A plenary indulgence may be
obtained by visiting a cemetery and praying for the departed
each day between November 1-November 8.
A partial indulgence can be obtained by praying the Requiem
Aeternam, or Eternal Rest, prayer: “Eternal rest grant to them,
O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls
of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in
peace. Amen.”
These indulgences all apply to the souls in purgatory, not to
your own soul.
St. Paul’s Family Choir
If you can carry a tune, like to sing, are a
professional singer, or would like to learn to
sing in a group for the honor and glory of God
in our parish, please call the Choirmaster,

Marriage Preparation
To schedule a wedding, an engaged couple must
meet with their parish priest or deacon at least 8
months before their proposed wedding date.
Preparation for the sacrament includes attending
a diocesan program, such as Engaged Encounter
or Pre-Cana, and completing the FOCCUS
inventory. All couples of child-bearing age will
also need to take a full course of Natural Family
Planning. Pre-registration for each of these
programs is mandatory. The next Engaged
Encounter program will be held November 14-16
at Marywood Retreat and Conference Center. The
next Pre-Cana program will be December 13th at
St. Matthew’s. For more information about the
diocesan requirements or to register for any of
the diocesan programs, please visit www.dcfl.org

All Souls’ Day is unique on the liturgical calendar. Neither a solemnity nor a
feast, this commemoration outranks other feasts and even takes the place
of a Sunday in Ordinary Time, as it does today. Prayer for the dead reaches
deep into our human history, and it has been our custom from the earliest
days of the Church. The belief that our prayers can be of assistance to the
dead is a treasured tenet of our Catholic faith.
