A message from our chairman
A message from our conductor
The project “World Choir Games 2014” in Riga does not only imply an extraordinary musical and cultural event
for the “Cor di Jëuni Gherdëina”, but especially a priceless social experience for the 54 singers aged between
18 and 41 years.
We consider our participation in the World Choir Games in Riga as a great success for our choir.
Since the foundation of the “Cor di Jëuni Gherdëina”, it has been important to us to motivate young people and
to fill them with enthusiasm for choral singing. In fact, singing for pleasure has always been our motto. In 2012,
we took part in a competition in Riva del Garda and won a gold medal – a ticket for the World Choir Games 2014!
The numerous rehearsals beforehand, the journey to our destination, the performance in front of people from all
over the world, the experience of representing our home in a foreign country and, last but not least, our efforts
to give our very best, all of this enhances our sense of togetherness and
offers to every single one of us the opportunity to grow personally.
We consider this project as a success in itself, independently of the results
we will achieve in Riga. Every member of the “Cor di Jëuni Gherdëina”
should experience this trip as an unforgettable adventure with new friends
and share with them very special moments.
Matthias Runggaldier
Right from the start, the singers have been committed to rehearse the songs
chosen for the competition as efficiently as possible. They are curious about
getting to know new cultures, new musical styles and new people and thus,
every single one of us has been taking this project seriously in order to get
the most out of this unique event. We are all looking forward to beginning
this trip full of vigor and commitment.

THE 8th WORLD CHOIR GAMES 2014
In 2014, Riga will not only be the European Capital of Culture
but also the World Capital of Choral Music
The 8th World Choir Games – the world’s largest choir competition – will link one of the most traditional
singer regions with the international flair of the Olympic idea in the summer of 2014. After the immense
success in China in 2010 and with the highest expectations for the USA in 2012, the most outstanding and
innovative choral event returns to Europe. Latvia shares with neighboring Baltic states an impressive history,
where the passion for singing has been playing a leading role for the entire state.
The World Choir Games, in many parts of the world also called Choir Olympics, therefore look forward
to another great highlight in Riga in 2014. Based on the great national tradition, an incredible international
choir festival will be organized.
As always, the possibilities of participation will be manifold: the competition offers many possibilities of
participation in more than 29 different categories to amateur choirs of any genre or line-up.
From July 8 to 14, 2014, we will be taking part in...
-
the Champions Competitions for internationally experienced choirs
-
various performing and evaluation possibilities with internationally renowned choral music experts
-
joint concerts with choirs from all over the world in numerous Friendship Concerts
In particular, the unforgettable Award Ceremonies the World Choir Games are known for will create
unbelievable and emotional moments to all participants.
Cor di Jëuni Gherdëina
The “Cor di Jëuni Gherdëina” was founded in 2009 with the idea of bringing together all the youth choirs from
Val Gardena (Youth Choir Urtijëi, Youth Choir S. Cristina and Hosianna) in one single choir in order to organize
a big concert. After intense preparations, the choir finally performed in November 2009, and since it was a great
success, two further concerts – both of them sold out – followed.
To have memories of these special events, we released a CD with live recordings.
We also had the unique opportunity to meet the “Akustika Chamber Singers” from South Africa and as a
consequence, we developed a friendship with their conductor, Christo Burger.
In 2011, we then invited Christo to our valley, where we were given the opportunity to attend a one-week workshop
with him. The workshop consisted of refining the songs we had already been studying with our conductor, Samuel
Runggaldier; at the end of the week, we had the honor of performing two concerts conducted by Christo Burger.
On this occasion, we recorded our second live CD.
Our conductor Samuel then chose the best pieces from our repertoire, which we performed in Riva del Garda in
April 2012 at the 12th edition of the “Concorso Corale Internazionale”. Our unexpected success in this competition
allows us to face our next challenge: the “World Choir Games 2014” in Riga, Latvia.
We’d like to ask you for your support!
